Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) Testing
You can
take the TABE at any Miami-Dade
County adult vocational Education Centers (Testing centers).
Call the center nearest you to find out the best time to go to register
for the TABE. If you cannot find a center that offers the TABE at a
time convenient for you, please check The English Center's TABE Test Schedule.
We test students Monday through Thursday morning, afternoon, and
evening. Tests on Friday, Saturday and Sunday are given mornings
and afternoons. You must come in to register for the test in
person.
All
adult students are required by Florida
state law to be given the TABE before they may begin classes. There are
two reasons for this. First, the test gives a complete analysis of the
areas in math, reading, and language in which the students have
knowledge. It also identifies the areas in which they need help.
This allows the instructor to personalize lessons to fit their needs.
After
the Locator has been given, you will take three longer tests in math,
language, and reading. The total length of time required for these three
tests is about three and one-half hours. They may be taken in one day or
in two separate sessions.
All
vocational students must be tested during the enrollment process to
determine the level of basic skill mastery and to provide help to improve
if necessary. Students must pass the TABE before they can be awarded a
vocational completer certificate.
After
you have tested, fill out the electronic registration form on our home
page. You will receive a confirmation e-mail and will be contacted
by our registrar.
