Architectural Drafting

The purpose of these courses is to prepare students for employment in the Architectural Drafting industry. It provides technical skill proficiency, employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills. These two courses offered in 1990 hours are designed to develop skills to work as an architectural drafter.
AutoCAD is a CAD (Computer Aided Design or Computer Aided Drafting) software application for 2D and 3D design and drafting. Knowledge of AutoCAD will open doors to find jobs in the construction industry, engineering offices, as well as architectural firms and any other business where drawing and design are an integral part of the business; whether it is for buildings, bridges, airplanes, interior decorating, or even furniture.
Each vocational class lasts one term; therefore, the more classes taken per term, the sooner a program can be completed (i.e. if two classes per term, student can complete program in 1 term or 6 months). The school provides state of the art computer equipment as well as any needed equipment for class use. All students who plan to enroll in a vocational course must read and understand the English language. If a student did not achieve a passing score on the admission test, s/he is encouraged to attend the VPI lab to improve their language and math skills prior the completion of the program.
Certificate of Achievement
A certificate of achievement is issued upon the completion of program standards based on Occupational Completion Points (OCP).
Certificate of Completion
A certificate of completion is issued to Program Completers who obtain all Occupational Completion Points (OCP) and pass the Basic skills requirements for the program.
Architectural CAD Drafter I
Students will learn how to prepare architectural drawings, interpret catalogs, specifications, technical tables, codes and ordinances, and prepare floor and roof plans and elevation drawings.
Architectural CAD Drafter II
Prerequisite: Architectural CAD Drafter I
In this course students will prepare advanced computer aided drawings; produce architectural drawings, structural plans and civil drawings. After successful completion of these two-course sequence students will have met OCP D, Architectural CAD Drafter certificate.
Points & Grade
The following Grading Scale will apply to all courses within the program: 90 -100 A | 80 - 89 B | 70 - 79 C | 60 - 69 D | 59 or less F
