This 1050-hour program covers aspects of implementing and managing the infrastructure for business solutions based on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 platform and helps students to develop the necessary skills to the installment, management, and maintenance of computer software and hardware, as well as network design.  The program prepares students to take industry certification exams.  More information on specific exams will be found at the end of each class description.


Each vocational class lasts one term; therefore, the more classes taken per term, the sooner a program can be completed (i.e. if two classes per term, student can complete program in 3 terms or 9 months). The school provides state of the art computer equipment as well as any needed equipment for class use. All students who plan to enroll in a vocational course must read and understand the English language. If a student did not achieve a passing score on the admission test, s/he is encouraged to attend the VPI lab to improve their language and math skills prior the completion of the program.


 

Certificate of Achievement

 

A certificate of achievement is issued upon the completion of program standards based on Occupational Completion Points (OCP).


 

Certificate of Completion

 

A certificate of completion is issued to Program Completers who obtain all Occupational Completion Points (OCP) and pass the Basic skills requirements for the program.


 

Introduction to Computers

Duration: 150 hours / Prerequisite for all programs


This introductory course will train students in the basic skills operating a personal computer. This course provides introduction to users and newcomers to the new technological world we live in. The course includes Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office applications, and Keyboarding.  Since this is an introductory course, no computer skills are needed prior to admission. After successful completion of Introduction to Computers students will have met Occupational Completion Point Data Code A, BTE Core, Certificate.


 

Networking 1

A+ Certification

Duration: 150 hours / Can be taken concurrently with Introduction to computers


A+ Certification is a testing program sponsored by CompTIA™ that certifies the competency of entry-level (6 months experience) service technicians in the computer industry. Anyone who wants an internationally recognized credential as a competent entry-level computer service professional can take the A+ examination.  After successful completion of Networking 1 students will have met Occupational Completion Point Data Code B, Computer Support Assistant Certificate.  This course will prepare students for CompTIA™ exams 220-704 and 220-702.

 

Networking 2

Microsoft® Windows® Essentials and Implementing / Professional & Server & N+

Duration: 150 hours / Prerequisite: Networking 1


The course is intended for systems administrator candidates who are responsible for managing accounts and resources. These tasks include managing user, computer and group accounts; managing access to network resources; managing printers, managing and organizational unit in a network based on Active Directory® service; and implementing Group Policy to manage users and computers.  After successful completion of Networking 2 students will have met Occupational Completion Point Data Code C, Network Support Technician Certificate.  This course will prepare students for Microsoft exams 70-680 and 70-646.

 

Networking 3

Implementing a Microsoft® Windows® Infrastructure Implementing

Administering Microsoft® Windows® Directory Server

Duration: 150 hours / Prerequisite: Networking 3


The course is intended for systems administrators or systems engineer candidates who are responsible for implementing and managing server networking technologies.  After successful completion of Networking 3 students will have met Occupational Completion Point Data Code D, System Administration Certificate.  This course will prepare students for Microsoft exams 70-642 and 70-643.

 

Networking 4

Designing a Microsoft® Windows® Directory Server / Network Server Infrastructure

Duration: 150 hours / Prerequisite: Networking 3


The goal of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to plan and maintain a Windows Server 2008 network infrastructure.  After successful completion of Networking 4 students will have met Occupational Completion Point Data Code E, System Engineer Certificate.  This course will prepare students for Microsoft exams 70-640.

 

Networking 5

Microsoft® Windows® Migration Strategy & Designing a Secure Network

Duration: 150 hours / Prerequisite: Introduction to computers, and Networking 2


This course provides the student with the knowledge and skills to design a secure network infrastructure. Topics include assembling the design team, modeling threats and analyzing security risks in order to meet business requirements for securing computers in a networked environment. The course encourages decision-making skills through an interactive tool that simulates real-life scenarios that the target audience may encounter.  After successful completion of Networking 5 students will have met Occupational Completion Point Data Code F, Wireless Network Administrator Certificate.  This course will prepare students for Microsoft exams 70-647.

 

Networking 6

Advanced Microsoft® Windows® Design, Implementation, Management & Administration

Duration: 150 hours / Prerequisite: Introduction to computers, and Networking 2


The goal of this course is to provide the Information Technology (IT) professional with the knowledge and skills to deploy and manage Microsoft® Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2008 in an enterprise environment.  After successful completion of Networking 6 and all program requirements including one industry certification exam with a passing score, a university degree or a passing score in the TABE test of 9 or above in all areas will have met Occupational Completion Point Data Code G, Data Communications Analyst Certificate.  This course will prepare students for Microsoft exams 70-648, 70-649 and 70-662.

The following grading scale will apply to all courses within the program: 90 -100 A | 80 - 89 B | 70 - 79 C | 60 - 69 D | 59 or less
