Patient Care Technician

This 600-hour program is designed to prepare students for employment as advanced cross trained nursing assistants (patient care technicians). The program focuses on broad, transferable skills and stresses understanding and demonstration of the following elements of the health care industry; planning, management, finance, technical and production skills, underlying principles of technology, as well as labor, community, health, safety, and environmental issues.


Each Career/Technical class lasts one term; therefore, the more classes taken per term, the sooner a program can be completed (i.e. if three classes are taken per term, the student can complete a program in three months if the schedule permits it). The school provides state of the art computer equipment as well as any other needed educational tool for class use. If students do not achieve a passing score on the entry-level basic skills examination, they are encouraged to attend the Applied Academics lab to improve their language, reading and math skills prior to the completion of the program.



Certificate of Achievement


A certificate of achievement is issued upon the completion of program standards based on Occupational Completion Points (OCP*).



Certificate of Completion


A certificate of completion is issued to program completers who obtain all Occupational Completion Points (OCP's) and pass the basic skills requirements for the program.

There is no prerequisite for this course. This core course of basic knowledge is necessary for any health occupations career. This core course will demonstrate knowledge of The Health Care Delivery System and Health Occupations as well as describing the importance of professional ethics and legal responsibilities using oral and written communications skills in creating, expressing and interpreting information and ideas.



Basic Healthcare Worker

Duration: 90 hours

There is no prerequisite for this course

This core course of basic knowledge is necessary for any health occupations career


This core course will demonstrate knowledge of The Health Care Delivery System and Health Occupations as well as describing the importance of professional ethics and legal responsibilities using oral and written communications skills in creating, expressing and interpreting information and ideas. The course will demonstrate the importance of health, safety, and environmental managements systems in organizations and their importance to organizational performance and regulatory compliance. In this course students will also recognize and respond to emergency situations and will also recognize and practice infection control procedures.
After successful completion of this core course, students will have met OCP A, Basic Healthcare Worker Certificate.



Nurse Aide, Orderly

Duration: 150 hours (Articulated)


The emphasis of this course is to teach students how to apply verbal and written communications skills in a courteous, concise, and correct manner at personal and professional levels. Students will learn how to apply legal and ethical responsibilities as well as principles of nutrition and the principles of infection control, and how to perform physical comfort and safety functions, all of those concepts specific to home health aide. After successful completion of this course, students will have met OCP B, Articulated Nursing Assistant Certificate.



Advanced Home Health Aide

Duration: 50 hours


In this course emphasis will be placed in teaching students how to perform physical comfort, home health-care services and safety functions specific to home health aide, how to apply principles of nutrition, and also how to apply the principles of infection control all of them specific to home health aide. After successful completion of this course, students will have met OCP C, Advanced Home Health Aide Certificate.



Patient Care Assistant

Duration: 75 hours


Students enrolled in this course have previously completed a Nursing Assistant program and are adding these skills to work in a health care facility other than a nursing home. The emphasis of this course is to teach student how they can perform nursing assistant skills related to the hospital setting and how to provide nursing assistant care for the adult patient. After successful completion of this course, students will have met OCP D, Patient Care Assistant Certificate.



Allied Health Assistant

Duration: 150 hours

This course provides students with the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform skills representative of 1- 3 major allied health areas as determined by local labor market demand, and will be able to successfully complete a clinical rotation in the selected major allied health areas. After successful completion of Allied Health Assistant course the students will have met OCP E, Allied Health Assistant Certificate.



Advanced Allied Health Assistant

Duration: 100 hours

This advance course include how the students will be able to perform additional skills learned from previous aide level courses, and will acquire ability in clinical rotation in the selected major allied health areas. After successful completion of Advanced Allied Health Assistant course the students will have met OCP F, Advance Allied Health Assistant Certificate.



Patient Care Technician

Duration: 60 hours

The emphasis of this course is to teach students how to perform an effective team member skill, and how to apply practice organizational and effective team member skills in a clinical setting. After completing all courses, the students will have achieved the OCP G, Patient Care Technician Certificate (Advanced Multi-skilled Nursing Assistant).

The following grading scale will apply to all courses within the program: 90 -100 A | 80 - 89 B | 70 - 79 C | 60 - 69 D | 59 or less
