This 900-hour course is designed to develop entry-level skills for PC Support services. Emphasis is placed on developing an understanding of various computer software applications and computer hardware. It also includes software applications and operating systems, electronic communications via the Internet, and introduction to computer networking. The PC Support Program will enable students to continue to build on entry-level skills and upon completion possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to become a successful Help Desk Analyst.


Each vocational class lasts one term; therefore, the more classes taken per term, the sooner a program can be completed (i.e. if two classes per term, student can complete program in 3 terms or 9 months). The school provides state of the art computer equipment as well as any needed equipment for class use. All students who plan to enroll in a vocational course must read and understand the English language. If a student did not achieve a passing score on the admission test, s/he is encouraged to attend the VPI lab to improve their language and math skills prior the completion of the program.


 

Certificate of Achievement

A certificate of achievement is issued upon the completion of program standards based on Occupational Completion Points (OCP).


 

Certificate of Completion

A certificate of completion is issued to Program Completers who obtain all Occupational Completion Points (OCP) and pass the Basic skills requirements for the program.


 

Introduction to Computers (150 hrs)

Prerequisite for all programs


This introductory course will train students in the basic skills operating a personal computer. This course provides introduction to users and newcomers to the new technological world we live in. The course includes Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office applications, and Keyboarding.  Since this is an introductory course, no computer skills are needed prior to admission. After successful completion of Introduction to Computers students will have met OCP Data Code A, BTE Core Certificate.


 

PC Support I

Microsoft Word (150hrs)

This class can be taken concurrently with Introduction to computers


This course is designed to develop entry-level for PC Support Services. Emphasis is placed on developing an understanding of various computer software applications and computer hardware. The course covers advanced features of Word 2007 including creating and using templates.


 

PC Support II

Microsoft Excel (150hrs)

This class can be taken concurrently with Introduction to computers


The course includes software applications and operating systems, and introduction to computer networking. It includes advanced features of Excel 2007 from creating professional looking workbooks to using templates, creating multiple worksheets and developing customized applications with macros. This course can be taken after successful completion of Introduction to Computers or have successfully passed a competency skill test.  After successful completion of PC Support I and II students will have met OCP Data Code B, Help Desk Support Assistant Certificate.


 

PC Support III

Microsoft Access (150hrs)

This class can be taken concurrently with Introduction to computers.


The course includes software applications, operating systems and computer networking. It also covers the purpose of the database, the ability to create, edit, and modify tables, create queries to retrieve records according to desired criteria and covers advanced features including forms, reports and macros.


 

PC Support IV

Microsoft PowerPoint (150hrs)

This class can be taken concurrently with Introduction to computers


The course includes advanced software applications, operating systems, and computer networking topics. It covers advanced features of Power Point 2007, from applying complex animation and sound effects, to manipulating photographs, drawing diagrams and illustrations. Publisher 2007 covers how to create and manage publications such as newsletters, brochures, business forms and program-file association. This course can be taken after successful completion of Introduction to Computers or have successfully passed a competency skill test.  After successful completion of PC Support III and IV students will have met OCP Data Code C, Help Desk Technician Certificate.


PC Support V

A+ (150hrs)

This class can be taken concurrently with Introduction to computers


The A+ certification supported by CompTIA™ opens the door to an exciting career in Information Technology. The course covers the fundamentals of supporting and troubleshooting computer hardware and software. It provides the knowledge and competencies in technology including installation, configuration, diagnostic and network maintenance. This course can be taken concurrently with Introduction to Computers at any time during the length of the program.  After successful completion of PC Support 5 and all program requirements including passing an Industry certification exam in the program of study or a passing score in the TABE test with a 9 of above in each area, students will have met OCP Data Code D, Help Desk Analyst Certificate.

The following Grading Scale will apply to all courses within the program: 90 -100 A | 80 - 89 B | 70 - 79 C | 60 - 69 D | 59 or less
