and life skills for adults who are performing at or
below the eighth grade level. The content includes reading,
language arts, writing and mathematics. Students are

THE
VPI PROGRAM
VPI is an adult general education program through
which persons attain workplace readiness skills at the
level of functional literacy (grade levels
6.0 - 8.9) or higher so that such persons may pursue
certificate career education or high-level career education.
The curriculum frameworks reflect the students' need
for academic, vocational-technical, and workplace readiness
skills. They incorporate basic skills instruction required
for completion from a vocational certificate program
as well as the Secretary's Competencies on Achieving
