Citizenship education aims to help roles and responsibilities in a modern democracy and seeks to support them in dealing with difficult moral and social questions.

The professional option in citizenship education addresses the place of this subject in the school curriculum; the knowledge, skills and understanding in the programs of study; the assessment, attainment target and key stage descriptions for citizenship; and the promotion of pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through citizenship. The democratic rights and responsibilities of the child and the meaning of citizenship at a variety of scales will be explored.
