General Education Development (GED) Program
Location: The English Center
Monday-Sunday

The General Education Development (GED) and Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes
offered at The English Center are individualized and self-paced.

Upon entering the GED/ABE program at The English Center, a diagnostic test is administered to the students in order to assess his/her academic needs.

The purpose of this test is to generate a study schedule for each student.

The GED program GED Schoolhouse is a computer lab where students can learn more
advanced skills through computer software, books, videos, and more. Students are also given various opportunities to practice writing skills in essay, which is a major portion of the GED Exam.

Additional supplemental materials are available to meet the needs of our diverse student body.

Periodically students are administered practice tests to determine whether or not he/she is ready for the actual test.

In the Success Lab, students can learn basic reading, Language, and math skills through
various software and computer programs.

GED-FAST TRACK

Provides 12 hours of GED preparation training.


Adult Basic Education (ABE)

The purpose of ABE courses is to provide basic literacy and life skills for adults who are performing at or below the eighth grade level.
The content includes reading, language arts, writing and mathematics.
Students are placed in each class according to their needs.


The VPI Program

VPI is an adult general education program through which persons attain workplace readiness skills at the level of functional literacy (grade levels 6.0 - 8.9) or higher so that such persons may pursue certificate career education or high-level career education.
The curriculum frameworks reflect the students’ need for academic, vocational-technical, and workplace readiness skills.
They incorporate basic skills instruction required for completion from a vocational certificate program as well as the Secretary’s Competencies on
Achieving of Necessary Skills foundation competencies.
