Education Department Chair
Mr. Antonio de Leon is the department chairperson
for the Business Technology Education Department at The
English Center. He came to us in 1995 with vast experience
in industry as an administrator and computer programmer
in New York and Miami. He won the Rookie Teacher of the
Year Award for the Vocational Education Division in his
first year teaching. Mr. de Leon holds a Bachelor of Science
Degree in Information Technology from Barry University and
is very knowledgeable in all areas of Business Education.
He has been a presenter in state and national Business Technology
Education conferences.
Vocational
Department Chair
Ms. Margie Sabates is the original teacher
for our Child Care Program. The second center of its kind,
the program is available to adult students with the need
and desire to study, but who do not have the funds to obtain
proper child care for their children. Ms. Sabates has been
employed by Miami-Dade County Public Schools in numerous
capacities from data entry clerk, registration specialist,
and bookstore cashier to teacher's aide. Her concern and
love for the children and their parents shows through the
many activities and events that she plans and develops for
the Child Care Program, Cosmetology, and others. As the
department chair for TEC's vocational programs, Ms. Sabates
is devoted to maintain our reputation as one of the best
in the M-DCPS system.
ESOL
Department Chair
Ms. Carol Antunano carries a full teaching
load, manages the duties and responsibilities of a very
large and complicated department, and still finds time to
participate in numerous committees and workshops designed
to improve the overall quality of education in our school
system. She was chosen to serve on the committee that developed
the new instrument used to evaluate teachers (PACES).
Network Administrator
Mr. Roberto Valdes is a pioneer in our
computer network development process. He has brought his
knowledge from many years in private industry overseas.
A graduate of The English Center's original Networking classes,
Mr. Valdes made significant contributions towards the installation
of the mammoth technology programs that are housed in our
school. He has spearheaded many new and innovative programs
that are housed at The English Center.
Career
Resource Center
Ms. Teresita G. Fernandez has been employed with
the Miami-Dade County Public Schools since 1982. Over the
last few years as a Career Specialist, Ms. Fernandez has
coordinated various programs including Biznet Workshops,
TEC's Volunteer Program, Dade Partners, Career Fairs, Recruitment
Workshops and many others. She was selected by the principal
to manage the Career Resource Center because of her professionalism,
incredible talents and resourcefulness. Ms. Fernandez supervises
a skilled group of individuals who work cohesively to assist
the students of The English Center as they bridge the gap
between school and career.

Resource Center
Mr. Ernesto Mantilla
was selected by the principal to manage the Career Resource
Center because of his professionalism, incredible talents,
and resourcefulness. Mr. Mantilla supervises a skilled group
of individuals who work cohesively to assist the students
of The English Center as they bridge the gap between school
and career.
Financial
Aid Counselor
Ms. Elena Morejon facilitates funding for
our students and oversees the Financial Aid Program. In
conjunction with her many responsibilities in financial
aid, she assists with the compilation of many reports that
generate both district and state funding for the school.
Ms. Morejon is also instrumental in providing social referral
services for needy students.
Guidance
Counseling
Ms. Leidia Dimascio's capabilities extend to many areas
of our organization, from helping a new migrant family as
they transition to academic counseling for students as they
continue beyond basic skills education. Ms. Dimascio has
the true ability to reach out and bring out the best qualities
in everyone. Hundreds of students can attribute their success
to the patient and encouraging guidance of our Head Counselor.
