Our complete ESOL Program includes the following required courses:
ESOL
The purpose of this program is to provide English language instruction for English language learners which will increase their ability to communicate in English. There are six levels of ESOL.
ESOL Academic Skills
Our ESOL courses prepare students to communicate at work, at school, and in the community. Students also learn about American culture and the American way. All ESOL teachers at The English Center (TEC) are certified by the State of Florida and use the latest materials and methods of instruction. Classes are dynamic and students work together in a variety of communicative activities.
The learners in our ESOL classes have the opportunity to develop listening, speaking, reading, writing, and pronunciation skills. In addition to classroom instruction, students go to our modern ESOL Lab on a regular basis and use a variety of computer programs to address their individual needs. Tutoring is also available to meet the individual needs of students in our ESOL program.
The English Center provides small targeted ESOL classes for refugees and asylees through the SAVES program.
ESOL Academic Skills
The purpose of this course is to improve the advanced ESOL students ability to communicate in English and allow them to acquire secondary level English language skills. Students in this course will have the opportunity to develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. This course is appropriate for those who plan to pursue academic studies.
VESOL
The purpose of the VESOL course is to provide English language instruction for English language learners who enroll in vocational or technical programs. VESOL is also designed for those students who want to obtain employment, maintain employment, or advance in their careers. Learners in these classes have the opportunity to improve their communication skills related to the work environment. There are three levels of VESOL.
Workplace Readiness Skills
The purpose of this course is to provide English language instruction for English language learners who are employed but need to improve English language skills to maintain and update employment. The content of this course is determined by the employer and the teacher to meet the specific needs of the employees of the company. This course is taught at the worksite.
Citizenship
The purpose of this course is to prepare students for success in the naturalization process required for those who have United States citizenship as a goal. The content includes preparation for the citizenship test and oral interview. |
